These email applications, which come standard as part of your OS, are rich in functionality, and simplify the maintenance of your computing environment since they can receive automatic upgrades and security fixes, much like your operating system. In an effort to ease the email migration process for POP users of Eudora 5.2.1 (Win) to Outlook Express or Outlook 2003 and Eudora 6.1 (Mac) to Apple Mail configured using IMAP, IS&T has scheduled various IAP sessions throughout the month of January to assure a smooth transition. The team will evaluate the need to extend, repeat or hold additional events based on demand from the MIT community. During IAP, the IS&T Email Migration team, in conjunction with other IT colleagues around the Institute, will work with the MIT community by hosting these sessions consisting of migration overviews, hands on walk-in clinics, quick starts, and if necessary, travel on campus to those who have reached out for assistance but do not have a portable machine such as a laptop. Below is a list of scheduled IAP sessions. For more information regarding the email migration process, please visit the Email Migration at MIT page: Scheduled IAP Sessions: --------------------------------------------- Email Migration Overviews: For those interested in learning more about the overall migration process and how it works ------------------------------------ Apple Mail, January 18 and January 30, 2006 from 12-1:30 in 3-133. Information Services and Technology is pleased to announce the start of the effort to release Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) 5.3.2, IS&T's supported backup application for Macintosh users. The major new feature of this version is compatibility with Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger", allowing users to backup, archive and restore files with extended attributes, a new feature of Mac OS X 10.4 files. In addition, TSM 5.3.2 now supports Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) 128-bit encryption. AES is the United States government's encryption standard for non-classified but sensitive data. Other new features and known issues are described in the TSM 5.3.2 notebook: http://web.mit.edu/swrt/releases/tsmmac/. Please note that TSM 5.3.2 requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 or greater. IS&T plans to retire TSM 5.2 and 5.1.5 for Macintosh users once TSM 5.3.2 is released. If you have questions, suggestions, or would like to participate in the release of TSM 5.3.2, please contact the team at tsmmac- release at mit.edu.
