TITLE: Educational Technology at Research Universities: Lessons Learned
on Building Institutional Support Environments to Foster a Sustainable
Integration of Educational Technology in Higher Education

ABSTRACT: In my presentation I would like to share what I have been
working on during my year here at CECI. I will emphasize some of my
findings from the case study I conducted here at MIT and provide some
contrasting examples from my work at Tufts and Northeastern in regard to
how these institutions set up support structures to respond to the
particular needs fo the institutions faculty.

SHORT BIO: I do have a degree in business management and education from
the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland (www.unisg.ch), which means
that I am also a certified teacher for business related subjects at the
high school level. Since spring 2002 I have been working on my doctorate
in the area of educational management. In my thesis I focus on how
research universities can best support their faculty towards a
sustainable integration of technology into their teaching. In my year
here at MIT I conducted 3 casestudies in order to understand the
complexities and approaches American research universities take. After
my return to Switzerland this April I will focus on the transfer of my
findings to the Swiss context. I will also be involved in project work
at the Swiss Center for Innovations in Learning (www.scil.ch), which is
a newly established center of competence for e-learning in Swiss Higher
Education.
