Mailman is an email list service offered by IS&T that allows automatic spam filtering and archiving of the lists as well as customization by list members. You DO NOT need to re-subscribe, but if you would like to see your customization options go to: http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/ed-tech and first get your password by filling in the last field on the page with your email address. You will then be taken to a page that will allow you to get your password emailed to you. Once you've gotten that, you can set your subscription options. If you do not change anything here you should see no difference in behavior of the list. We'll set aside time for discussion and also an extended roundtable since we haven't had the chance to get caught up in quite a while and I suspect we have interesting projects and news to share. The abstract and bio for Franziska's talk are below. Hope you can make it! WHAT: Educational Technology Partners meeting (with lunch) WHEN: Monday, Apr 5, 11:30 - 1:30 WHERE: W20-Private Dining Rooms 1&2 (3rd floor of the Student Center) RSVP: by Thursday, Apr. 1 to jfoster at mit.edu ------------------------------------------------------------------------ --- TITLE: Educational Technology at Research Universities: Lessons Learned on Building Institutional Support Environments to Foster a Sustainable Integration of Educational Technology in Higher Education ABSTRACT: In my presentation I would like to share what I have been working on during my year here at CECI. I will emphasize some of my findings from the case study I conducted here at MIT and provide some contrasting examples from my work at Tufts and Northeastern in regard to how these institutions set up support structures to respond to the particular needs fo the institutions faculty. SHORT BIO: I do have a degree in business management and education from the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland (www.unisg.ch), which means that I am also a certified teacher for business related subjects at the high school level. Since spring 2002 I have been working on my doctorate in the area of educational management. In my thesis I focus on how research universities can best support their faculty towards a sustainable integration of technology into their teaching. In my year here at MIT I conducted 3 casestudies in order to understand the complexities and approaches American research universities take. After my return to Switzerland this April I will focus on the transfer of my findings to the Swiss context. I will also be involved in project work at the Swiss Center for Innovations in Learning (www.scil.ch), which is a newly established center of competence for e-learning in Swiss Higher Education. ------------------- Jean Foster MIT Academic Computing 77 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge MA 20139 N42-040F, 617.253.3909 From jmhunt at MIT.EDU Wed Mar 24 11:55:37 2004 From: jmhunt at MIT.EDU (Jonathan McIndoe Hunt) Date: Wed, 24 Mar 2004 11:55:37 -0500 Subject: [ed-tech] MIT TechTime - Oracle Sync for Palm 9.0.4 Release Announcement Message-ID: <6.1.0.3.0.20040324114847.02a1daf8@hesiod> Date: Wednesday, 24 March 2004 To: itpartners, macpartners, winpartners, sw-release-announce, ed-tech, techtime-liaisons From: MIT TechTime PDA Synchronization Release Team Subject: MIT TechTime - Oracle Sync for Palm 9.0.4 Release Announcement Cc: is&t, itag at mit.edu Good afternoon, Information Services & Technology (IS&T) is pleased to announce the availability and support for Oracle Calendar Sync for Palm to enable you to synchronize your MIT TechTime calendar with your Palm based PDA. The Oracle Calendar Sync for Palm clients are available for Mac OS X and Windows 2000 & XP Professional and can operate without the MIT TechTime desktop client released in December. TechTime is MIT's implementation of Oracle Calendar, an integrated campus-wide calendaring system. With the synchronization clients for Palm, you can now synchronize your Palm PDA with your TechTime calendar. For more information on the TechTime service or to register for a free account, visit http://web.mit.edu/ist/services/calendaring/techtime.html. Known Issues ------------------------------------- - The Oracle address book conduit for Mac OS X does not work. We have provided instructions in the documentation below on how to revert the address book conduit back to synchronizing with Palm Desktop. - Oracle Calendar Sync 9.0.4 only supports up to Palm OS 5.0 meaning that brand new Palms, such as the Tungsten E, may not function with the client we are releasing. There are other problems with the latest client from Oracle, which is why we are not releasing it at this time. If you have a Palm device running Palm OS 5.2.1 or higher, please contact techtime-release at mit.edu, and we can work with you, explain the issues and make the latest version available. - The Oracle Calendar Sync for Pocket PC was found to be unstable in our testing, not consistent in its behavior and very dependent on which Pocket PC model and version was tested. We are not releasing the Pocket PC client at this time. Based on a survey of the TechTime client community and on conversations with TechTime users, these features were not critical to the majority of the client community so we are moving forward with the Oracle Calendar Sync for Palm only. We will continue to work with Oracle to resolve these issues. Getting Help ------------------------------------- The TechTime at MIT web page, including information on Palm synchronization is at Windows : http://itinfo.mit.edu/product?vid=617 Mac OS X: http://itinfo.mit.edu/product?vid=616 If you have a question or need assistance, please contact the Computing Help Desk at computing-help at mit.edu or (617) 253-1101. How to get Oracle Sync for Palm 9.0.4 -------------------------------------- Installers for Mac OS X and Windows are available through the MIT Software Page: http://web.mit.edu/software. Future Work ---------------------------------------- A release effort launched two weeks ago to release the secure Outlook Connector to TechTime. You can check-in on that release effort by visiting the produce release notebook at: http://web.mit.edu/swrt/releases/outlook/. The SWRT is also working to provide recommendations for other PDA applications for web browsing and e-mail to integrate with MIT's infrastructure. We hope to announce a release effort for these PDA applications soon.
