[ecco-support] [EXTERNAL] "evel_monthly_2016.nc" shows 2014 data

Thank you for your question.

Could you provide the URL from which you downloaded or accessed the file evel_monthly_2016.nc? I assume that the particular ECCO product is Version 4, Release 4 (V4r4), as the earlier releases do not cover the year 2016.  The filename evel_monthly_2016.nc is not what we used in V4r4. So I am wondering if someone generated this file by rewriting the field from the original ECCO file and, in the process, the 2014 data was incorrectly put in this 2016 file.

We did the ClimateMatch 2023 summer school and we're reviewing some of the tutorials. Today we're working with the ECCO reanalysis data and pulling from 2016 for surface wind and oceanic surface current data. The file name for the surface wind data is "wind_evel_monthly_2016.nc<https://urldefense.us/v3/__http:/wind_evel_monthly_2016.nc__;!!PvBDto6Hs4WbVuu7!LwqKcK20ctnay0OlYYXZ8CxbtVeFcxl9mFR-8dEUg3bkKk8R1P4ibZePMryCfOnoB2au2T5xc8-DBG6ENGp3BVTYVYGS$>" and this pulls 2016 data.
The filename for the 2016 oceanic surface current is
"evel_monthly_2016.nc<https://urldefense.us/v3/__http:/evel_monthly_2016.nc__;!!PvBDto6Hs4WbVuu7!LwqKcK20ctnay0OlYYXZ8CxbtVeFcxl9mFR-8dEUg3bkKk8R1P4ibZePMryCfOnoB2au2T5xc8-DBG6ENGp3BTIl64gb$>"
but this pulls 2014 data (see below).

Is the data simply mis-labeled, or is the 2016 data missing?
