  1. Yes. U(V)VELMASS should NOT be multiplied by hfac when calculating transport.
  2. U(V)VELSTAR are computed from stream functions for Bolus velocities (GM_PsiX and GM_PsiY) that have implicitly contained hfac. Do NOT multiply U(V)VELSTAR by hfac when adding them to U(V)VELMASS.

Subject: [ecco-support] calculating transports using vvelmass, uvelmass, uvelstar

I have the following questions:

1) My understanding is that the U(V)VELMASS fields are premultipled by hfac, and thus should not be multiplied again by hfac when calculating transport, correct?

2) Are U(V)VELSTAR also multiplied by hfac? Or should they premultiplied by hfac before adding them to U(V)VELMASS when calculating the total tracer advection velocity?

Thanks,

Paola Cessi
