* Announcement (cross-posted) *

The SHERPA/RoMEO API has been upgraded following the major upgrade to
the interactive RoMEO service.

The updated API is version 2.4.2, and uses the same URL as the original
V.2.4 - http://www.sherpa.ac.uk/romeo/api24.php. It has been
acceptance-tested using a series of systematic test scripts.

The main changes are as follows:

- Journal coverage has been expanded, through addition of the DOAJ and
Entrez databases.
- Journal title searches accommodate abbreviations
- ISSN queries now also handle Electronic ISSNs (ESSNs) as well as Print
ISSNs
- Compliance with research funders' open access mandates can be
selectively displayed for specific countries.
- New validated DTD.

A full list of changes is given in Appendix D of the updated
documentation, downloadable from http://www.sherpa.ac.uk/romeo/api.html.

If you are a user of V.2.3 or earlier 2.* versions, you can probably
move to the latest version just by changing the URL in your program
code. Although a couple of fields have been added to the XML schema, all
the existing fields and definitions remain the same.

WARNING TO USERS OF V.1.* PROTOTYPES

We sent out notification in June 2009 that the earliest prototype
versions of the API will be switched off at the end of 2009.

Our log files indicate that V.1.1 still has some heavy users. If you are
one of them, you need to upgrade your application to the new version of
the API as soon as possible. Please get in touch if you need any advice
regarding your upgrade.

We hope that developers' experience with the new version is both
productive and trouble-free.

Regards

Peter Millington
