In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: Hi Vlastimil, I am really thankful for your concern but i was able to find such a tool that is availbale with default dspace which served my purpose. Actually me and my friend had to implement a whole software library using dspace. We couldn't have done it manually using the web interface because the library was really vast. So, we finally decided to use some scripts and programs to serve our purpose. Since we knew how to upload a large amount of data using batches. The only thing that we required was to find a way so that we could create communities and collections in large numbers using the codes we have made. Then we found out about "Collections and communities structure importer". Well this was more or less like a command line tool we needed. I think you might be aware of it, if not you may find about it here.. [dspace-source]/dspace/docs/html.legacy/application.html#structbuilder We wrote a code that could create that xml file and then that command is executed creating communites and collections in the required format.. In one place you can learn about five open source platforms in higher ed, what development technologies are being deployed, issues running and supporting open source ect. If you are using or developing open source tools, you should consider going if you can. In addition there will be a "Getting up and running with DSpace" workshop on Sunday and a DSpace/ Fedora developers meeting on Thursday. Call for proposals is open until December 12th. The program is in 4 tracks and the proposal can be DSpace specific. We had some great presentations last year from Cornell U and others in the DSpace community. The tracks are: * Community Source Management/Governance: What are best practices for managing community source projects or their deployments on campus? For encouraging adoption? For gaining acceptance and campus buy-in? For engaging your community in the processes? Presentations for managers, team leaders, executives, planners and strategists. * Design and Development: For developers, architects, UX designers, testers. Presentations for people who build community source products, use them as a development framework or want to learn more about doing so. These are technical topics, tips and techniques, how-to's. * Deployment and Integration: Presentations for people who need to make applications work on campus: developers, content providers, team leaders, evangelists. In particular, we would like to highlight work that integrates community source projects within the enterprise infrastructure and with each other. * Multiple Audiences: Presentations that span multiple projects or audience types. Community source project introductions and overviews. I hope to see you there, best, Michele Kimpton REGISTRATION IS OPEN. CALL FOR PROPOSALS EXTENDED TO DEC 12th. We hope to see as many developers there and plan on having special workshops on building web services for DSpace 2.0, and building common plugins and tools for DSpace and Fedora platforms. See details below. best, Michele Executive Director DSpace Foundation What is "developerHappinessDays" (tag: "dev8D"): Developer Happiness Days(http://docs.google.com/View?docid=dfccf5n6_134hjmgk6ht ) is JISC's way of saying "thank you" to developers for all the hard work they do. Of course the question is: how do you show your gratitude to a developer who spends all their free time on a computer? Well other than beer, bowling and video games (which dev8D will have plenty of) we provide them with the gift of more development skills! It's pretty simple: a.) give them the opportunity to show off the work they do to someone who can appreciate it (other developers), b.) provide them with the opportunity to learn new frameworks, languages and techniques; and c.) throw in the ultimate VIP rock-n- roll developer barcamp... RESULT: happy developers building applications faster than ever! Developers work better when happy and when the cost is zero to attend there really is no reason why you shouldn't be sending your entire team to JISC's "Developer Happiness Days"! Space is limited so book now! Summary of planned events (see below for details): * Pre Event Workshops - Newbies Pre-Event Code Labs: Ruby, Python, Perl (need you know more?) * Main Event - The Developer Decathlon: "Show us the future" contest, w/ $15k worth of prizes up for grabs * Community Project Meetings: VLE, Repository, OPAC, ePortfolios, CMS, CollaborationTools * Roll-your-own event: Please email event organisers to request meeting space for your own meeting Brochure: http://is.gd/3PXS Event Blog: http://dev8d.jiscinvolve.org/ RSVP form: http://tinyurl.com/5gdt6e -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... This call includes topics of interest to key stakeholders in open repositories as well DSpace user group presentation proposals. DSpace Foundation would like to encourage members of the community to submit topics of broad interest to the general OR conference. Topics related specifically to the DSpace platform will be candidates for the DSpace User Group (DSUG) Meeting. Some of the areas that would be of potential interest for the DSUG Meeting would be; DSpace pluggins/addons, value added services, new/interesting use cases, institutional embedding, preservation, content recruitment, promotion/outreach. The deadline for the general conference is February 2 and the DSUG deadline is March 6. Valorie Hollister Community Outreach Manager DSpace Foundation Call for Papers, Posters and Workshops Repositories are being deployed in a variety of environments (education, research, science, cultural heritage) and contexts (national, regional, institutional, project, lab, personal). Regardless of setting, context or scale, repositories are increasingly expected to operate across administrative and disciplinary boundaries and to interact with distributed computational services and social communities. It is the aim of the Open Repositories Conference to bring together individuals and organizations responsible for the conception, development, implementation and management of digital repositories, as well as stakeholders who interact with them, to address theoretical, practical, and strategic issues. A program of papers, panel discussions, poster presentations, user groups, and workshops or tutorials will bring together all the key stakeholders in the field. Open source software community meetings for the major platforms (EPrints, DSpace and Fedora) will also provide opportunities to advance and coordinate the development of repository installations across the world. Submission Instructions Conference papers: We welcome two- to four-page proposals for presentations or panels that discuss theoretical, practical, or administrative issues of digital repositories that focus on areas represented by the conference themes. Abstracts of accepted papers will be made available through the conference's OCS site; all presentations and related materials used in the program sessions will be deposited in the upcoming Open Repositories 2009 community in Georgia Tech's institutional repository, SMARTech (http://SMARTech.gatech.edu). User Group Presentations: Two- to four-page proposals for presentations or panels that focus on use of one of the major repository platforms (EPrints, DSpace and Fedora) are invited from developers, researchers, repository managers, administrators and practitioners describing novel experiences or developments in the construction and use of repositories. Posters: We also invite developers, researchers, repository managers, administrators and practitioners to submit one-page proposals for posters. Workshops: Proposals for workshops for repository managers and developers can be accommodated on day four (May 21, 2009) of the conference. Please contact the local arrangements team for inquiries about workshop facilities at or09info at library.gatech.edu. Please submit your paper through the OCS system administered by Georgia Tech. The OCS system will be linked from the conference web site (http://conferences.library.gatech.edu/or/or09) and will be available for submissions as of December 1, 2008. Visit the University of Pretoria at http://www.up.ac.za About this workshop Modern computer technology is barely 50 years old, and few of us have seen or used digital objects that are more than 30 years old. Add to this that we can't predict the future of computer technology, it puts us in a very vulnerable position when deciding on which approach to follow when preserving our digital assets (incl. research). More and more African as well as South African institutions/organizations are starting to implement digital preservation strategies and repositories in order to collect, disseminate, manage, preserve, and index their digitally born and non-digitally born assets, following a world-wide paradigm. In addition to preserving intellectual output, an open access digital repository can also help improve the visibility, usage and impact of research conducted at your institution on the world out there. The aim of this workshop will be to equip colleagues from all sectors with the necessary skills to implement a digital repository - from compiling and implementing an e-strategy, conducting a needs analysis, compiling a business plan, proposal, installing the necessary software (we will be using DSpace open source software), digitization and copyright issues, up to giving exposure to the repository and the role of librarians and faculty. Program and more info: http://www.library.up.ac.za/irtoolbox/workshop.htm Who should attend? Has anyone found it? This is issue is slightly complicated. The URL that the user is redirected to is in Authenticate.java (line 145) as you have found: - originalURL = request.getContextPath() + "/mydspace"; However... this is only used if a user requested the login screen, rather than DSpace redirecting them there, in which case DSpace decides where to forward them to. For example if a user tries to access a restricted item, and they are not logged in, then they will be redirected to the login screen. Once they have logged in, DSpace will then forward them to the item they requested. If you want to log in directly, then visit http://your-dspace/jspui/ldap-login and if you have changed the line in Authenticate.java then they should be redirected appropriately. If this is not happening, it is probably because your users are clicking on 'My DSpace' in order to log in. This tries to take them to their 'My DSpace' screen, but first requires them to log in. Once they have done so, they are redirected to the page they wanted, My DSpace. DSpace is sending them to the destination that they requested. If you want all users to be redirected to a different URL all of the time, then change the following code in Authenticate.java: if (originalURL == null) { // If for some reason we don't have the original URL, redirect // to My DSpace originalURL = request.getContextPath() + "/mydspace"; } else { // Set the flag in the session, so that when the redirect is // followed, we'll know to resume the interrupted request session.setAttribute("resuming.request", new Boolean(true)); } Change this to just: originalURL = request.getContextPath() + "/community-list"; I hope this helps, Stuart _________________________________________________________________ Gwasanaethau Gwybodaeth Information Services Prifysgol Aberystwyth Aberystwyth University E-bost / E-mail: Stuart.Lewis at aber.ac.uk Ffon / Tel: (01970) 622860 _________________________________________________________________ From Barbara.Y.Hilderbrand at nasa.gov Mon Dec 29 10:48:11 2008 From: Barbara.Y.Hilderbrand at nasa.gov (Hilderbrand, Barbara (GSFC-999.9)[PEND]) Date: Mon, 29 Dec 2008 09:48:11 -0600 Subject: [Dspace-general] Controlled vocabulary searching Message-ID: Hello, I have recently uploaded a controlled vocabulary into Dspace and it is working with the submission forms searching within the metadata.
