Greetings,

I would like to call your attention to a new white paper that Dan
Shepherd from
Cambridge University's CARET (Centre for Applied Research in Educational
Technology)
has written on the subject of improved integration between Sakai, the
new open
source collaborative and learning environment
(http://www.sakaiproject.org/)
and DSpace.

In this context DSpace is assumed to be a fairly standard Institutional
Repository,
as managed by a library or other archival organization within an
educational
institution. The paper discusses how the two systems might be used together,
and describes some of the technical issues to be tackled. CARET is
undertaking some of that work for Sakai this fall, to make DSpace
collections
available to Sakai via its Resource Tool. Hopefully other parts of the
development roadmap will be undertaken over the next year or two, so that
digital archives can become even more valuable resources to their
institutions.

The paper can be found on the DSpace wiki here
http://wiki.dspace.org/SakaiIntegration

Thanks,

MacKenzie Smith
