Yes, it does depend, since it's not true that you must always have the permission of all authors, at least in the U.S. U.S. copyright law specifically states (Section 201): "The authors of a joint work are coowners of copyright in the work." So unless the authors transfered specific rights (such as the right to distribute) to someone else, or to one of the co-authors, the copyright is owned equally and in full by all authors. That said, German and/or Hong Kong law may be different, and there is of course a difference between legally requiring permission and asking or even requiring authors (in a self-deposit model) to notify their co-authors as a courtesy. Visit Support for Scholarly Publishers ( http://scholar.google.com/intl/en/scholar/publishers.html ) and go to: I'm a publisher of scholarly works and would like to have my content included in Google and Google Scholar? It should only take 10-15 minutes, https://survey.google.com/wix/p0345671.aspx As I'm sure you're all aware, in a couple of weeks, a group of DSpace developers from the open source community, together with some invited experts in the digital library field and myself, will be gathering in Cambridge, MA, and locked in a room for a week to hammer out for once and for all some concrete architectural and design decisions for moving the DSpace open source platform forward. To help us ensure that our discussions and designs best serve the needs of the whole DSpace community, we invite you to inform us of your use of and experience with DSpace, the problems or deficiencies you feel need most urgently addressing and functionality you would most like to be introduced. So please fill out the following informal survey and let us know what you and your organisation think. https://survey.google.com/wix/p0345671.aspx Reponses would be appreciated before the end of Thursday 2006-10-19 to allow the results to be shared with the architecture group -- apologies for the short notice. The results of the survey will be used primarily as input for the architecture review group. The anonymised results of the survey will also be posted on wiki.dspace.org and this email list. The work is seldom done by more that three ppl, and they use even the juniors that read the paper as authors. Every country has it's own set of conventions about listing. That's a mix between cultural ways and international law. We could go around and explain country by country how it is done. But the smarter way would be to create an International Standard, just like the fantastic Metric System. Can we all work on that? It's possible to add up to 10 description blocks: Identify.description.1=...another description ... Identify.description.2=...etc ... You would just need to generate XML from your policy tool, in addition to HTML and plain text, so that users can paste that in to oaicat.properties. I need to setup some initial rows in a table of my customized dspace. I was trying this through the database_schema.sql script, but I noticed that none of the other initial values of the database are inserted with this script (they're read form config/registry/XXX.xml). Even though, I tried to insert my values that way, but since I have constrained the values of one of the columns to metadatafieldregistry_id, I'm unable to insert them. My idea is to create a xml in config/registries for my values, and then import them, but I don't know where/how to trigger this import. Can anyone help? DSpace 1.4.1 is a minor release and will be primarily a bug-fix release, so patches addressing bugs are those most likely to be incorporated in this release. The list of proposed modifications (in no particular order) for inclusion in a DSpace 1.4.1 release has been posted at http://wiki.dspace.org/index.php/CurrentReleaseToDo Those items on the page not listed under the "Patches" heading as yet do not have patches associated with them, so if you do have some spare time, creating a patch for one or more of these items would be a great help to the community and help progress a 1.4.1 release. If you do decide to contribute, you might want to put your name/initials against an item on the page so that others know it is already being addressed. If you have time to review and provide feedback on any of the uncommitted patches on this page (i.e. those in bold type), create patches for unpatched bugs or improve the documentation prior to the cut-off date, it would be greatly appreciated. I just finished reinstalling my whole dspace installation. I even got the newest version. But my handle still cannot communicate with handle.net I think it has to do with the communication between dspace and the handle-plugin. Or between handle.net and my handle-server Can i test this with the proxy? http://dspace.howest.be:8000 I homed my server with the previous setup. Should I do this again? DSpace conveniently allows to submit multiple files per dissertation submission. However, I have now a number of submissions to add to DSpace that include separate files in their hundreds. Has anyone managed to get around the problem of having to add each file individually during the submission process? E.g. I have a dissertation with single file for the body of text - not a problem - then I have several folders full of images (100s of images). How can I add the folders on without needing to upload each image file separately? Thanks for your help already. If there is a plug-in allowing more than one file per file-input-box we certainly could use that too. I want to have public (anonymous) access for all the files with the exception of the files with the DBF extension. I had no problem doing this for one item with the administration GUI adding a new policy, to the bitstream. but I could?t find a way to add that policy for each bitstream with a DBF extension and avoid changing each one by hand. Studying the DSpace?s database visualization ( http://www.dspace.org/technology/system-docs/image/db-schema.gif ) I couldn't find the relation between the Bitstream Table and the Resource Policy Table, maybe someone with more SQL fu than me will have an easy solution to this problem!
