If I were going to do this I would do the following:

1.  Convert the marc records to xml.  There are tools out there to do this.
2.  Write a script ( I do mine in perl ), to get the data in the format
needed for the ItemImport routine using the xml files.  Here is the section
on doing this from the DSpace documentation:

3.  Then create a collection and run the ItemImport routine.
