We have just *barely* begun to implement an institutional repository
using DSpace here at Notre Dame.

Here is our initial plan:

1. Install software.

2. Fill DSpace with sample data from librarians in order to practice
and answer meta-data questions.

3. Build relationships with University departments who already do
some sort of open access publishing.

4. Fill Dspace with content from these departments.

5. Build enhanced services against the collection such as:

   * Allow the author to enter their name, click a button, and be given
a bibliography they can paste into their personal Web page.

   * Allow the author to enter their name, click a button, and have
a list of their content sent to Notre Dame Report for inclusion
in the next issue. (Notre Dame Report is list of faculty
     publications and activities.)

   * Allow the author to select their name, click a button, and get
a list of websites linking to their content.

   * Allow Notre Dame Report editors to enter a beginning date and
an ending date, click a button, and generate parts of Notre Dame
     Report.

   * Allow author to enter their name, click a button, and get a list
of people (IP addresses) who have looked at their content.

   * Allow author to enter their name, click a button, and get a
     Google Rank of their content.

   * Identify subject-specific areas in our DSpace, identify other
similar subject-specific content accessible via OAI, and
create subject-specific indexes to the content.

6. Demonstrate to other departments what can be done, and go to step #4.

Wish us luck. :-)
