DormCon does a lot of important work, and we need people like YOU to help run our organization. Some of the things we’re responsible for are listed below (and in the position description doc<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1pmL_5RJhdQ0VgVwzoclnIlOJgN09ocR3vJJNyPZqEP8/edit?tab=t.0>):

  *
Advocating for housing needs, such as roof/terrace access
  *
Providing feedback on the MIT Dining program, including Concord Market and the dining halls
  *
Running CPW and REX
  *
Supporting dorms on their own projects, including funding for events or support in arguing for student needs to the administration.

What has DormCon been up to?
So glad you asked! Whether it be AI cameras, Concord Market during IAP, or funding for food pantries and events, DormCon has been the unified voice of opinions and concerns of dormitory residences and has been working to create a community where all undergraduate dormitory residents are comfortable and feel welcome. Below are some of the things we’ve worked on, which you can get involved in by running for a DormCon position!

Housing

  *
Pushed and implemented campus-wide free-to-use laundry next academic year, meaning no more CSC GO!
     *
Working with GSC to expand this to graduate dorms too!
  *
Advocated for more flexible residential policies (including flags in dorms, roof/terrace access, etc.).
  *
Worked with Housing & Residential Services to give students on the waitlist faster placements.
  *
Helped start dorm-wide Gym and Makerspace Committees to advocate for dorm resident needs.
  *
Elevated dorm-specific issues to ensure prompt resolutions.

Dining

  *
Collaborated with DSL to design new shuttle routes to better reach off-campus grocery stores (after Daily Table’s closure).
  *
Distributed funding for dorm food pantries across campus.
     *
Working to ensure recurring funding in partnership with DSL’s Food Security Action Team.
  *
Addressed food insecurity during IAP and non-academic periods through meal support initiatives.
  *
Ensured student voices were heard in new dining pilots, including Grab-and-Go and the Building 4 Pop-Up.
  *
Helped bring meal swipes to Stata through a multi-year effort, engaging with various stakeholders across the Institute.
  *
Raised concerns and gathered data to advocate for better late-night dining options.
  *
Worked to improve sustainability in the Green Box program.

Event Funding

  *
Significantly increased dorm event funding after LEF/ARCADE was discontinued and SGFC funding decreased.
     *
Supported events like New House’s 50th Anniversary Dinner, EC’s Fredfest and East Side Festival, Next House’s Next Haunt, Burton 3rd’s ABC and DTYD, and Maseeh’s murder mystery dinner party!
     *
Funded inter-dorm collaborations, including tailgates (New Vassar & Baker) and picnics (BC & EC).
  *
Expanded funding to non-event projects, such as music equipment, laundry pilots, and fire-safe kitchenware.

Other

  *
Pushed for undergraduate representation in graduate housing decision-making.
  *
Ran a transportation survey to evaluate shuttle needs across dorms.
  *
Secured funding to make DormCon Apple Picking free for all residents in future years!
  *
Helped organize CPW logistics for dorms:
     *
Worked with Admissions to distribute over 350 self-inflating mattresses to CPW hosts.
     *
Partnered with G at MIT and TransMIT to host a drag show during CPW.
  *
Coordinated the largest REX ever, with 356 events for first-years.
     *
86.45% of first-years rated REX as a positive experience.
     *
95.63% expressed satisfaction with their housing experience afterward.
  *
Invited key administrators to DormCon meetings for open Q&As:
     *
Senior Director of Campus Dining (Dining Roadmap)
     *
Senior Associate Dean of Residential and Community Life (DSL initiatives)
     *
Faculty from TFUAP (academic and residential life integration)
     *
MIT PD and Emergency Management (campus security measures)
