Heyyo dorm residents!

Hope you’re hanging in there for the end of the school year. Here are some
updates:

------------------------------

DormCon Elections:

Do you want to…

 …work on improving student life?

…be in the room where all the dorm life tea is spilled?

…join a student government that doesn’t take itself too seriously?

Then you should run for a 🦈DormCon🦈 exec position at the next DormCon GBM
on Thursday, May 11th at 7:00 pm in 56-114.

There are 9 positions being elected: President, Vice President, Secretary,
Treasurer, Housing Chairs, Dining Chairs, Underclassmen Reps, JudComm, and
Tech Chair. You can find descriptions for the positions on this google doc
<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1TrjdndcYXEEdCyWgHc1gtuuoIepHRdRRIFEZhgs06QE/edit?usp=sharing>.
In addition to being responsible for a specific area of focus, all members
of DormCon Exec are involved in the discussions we have about student life
issues, and give input on the policies we advocate for.

All non-graduating dorm residents are eligible to run for a position on
DormCon Exec (no experience necessary)! Feel free to reach out to
dormcon-exec at mit.edu or any of the listed contacts for each position if you
have any questions! Fill out this (non-binding) form
<https://forms.gle/QBLFpG3fbYgitSHi9> to indicate your interest in a
position.

If you are unable to make it to the meeting, then you can send a proxy who
will represent you as a candidate. The name of the proxy should be sent to
us in advance of the meeting (you can reply to this email). Your proxy
should be able to speak to your platform and provide brief answers to the
following questions:

   -

What will be your workload over the next year?
   -

Can you make weekly Thursday night meetings?

Come to the DormCon GBM on May 11th if you want to run for any position!

Housing Crowding:

There are currently more undergraduates signed up for dorm housing next
year than there is normally space for (read the dormcon minutes
<https://dormcon.mit.edu/about/meetings> to find out the reasons behind
this). Some of this space should clear up as people cancel housing by the
deadline of May 15th, but to accommodate the current numbers, HRS is
increasing the density of dorms: turning some singles into doubles, some
doubles into triples, and some lounges in McCormick and MacGregor into
rooms.

We are talking to Suzy Nelson and Housing about this issue, and should have
a better idea about possible solutions after the housing lists are
finalized on May 15. In the meantime, we welcome you to:

   -

Reach out to dormcon-housing-chairs at mit.edu with any questions, concerns
   or suggestions.
   -

Cancel your on-campus housing as soon as possible if you know you want
to move to an FSILG or off-campus.
   -

Contact Housing over email or virtual office hours
<https://studentlife.mit.edu/contact-housing> if you want to talk with
   them directly!

Stud Closure and Food Trucks:

The stud is currently closed for renovations until the end of the summer.
To make sure that there are still lunch options on campus, MIT Dining has
invited food trucks to campus every weekday, 11:30 AM to 4:30 PM, until May
26! To see which food trucks you can purchase lunch from, more information
is at studentlife.mit.edu/food-trucks and a schedule with menus at
tinyurl.com/stud-trucks
