Hi everyone!
DormCon is the governing and advocacy body for all dormitory residents, and if you hold an interest in dorm life or the relationship between dorms and the MIT administration, this is the perfect way to get involved. We on DormCon exec spend our time meeting with administrators, representing students' concerns and desires, and developing policies that improve student life at the institute. This is a wonderful opportunity to have an impact on both the lives of those around you and the future of MIT student life, with a great group of people at your side!
We're holding elections tonight, Thursday, November 21st in Baker at 7:30pm.
We will be electing the following positions:
CPW/REX Chair
RAC/i3 Chair
Dining Chair
If you plan to run and would like to submit a platform so that your candidacy will be emailed out before the meeting, please email the DormCon secretary (dormcon-execer at mit.edu<mailto:dormcon-execer at mit.edu>) with your platform by 6pm tonight. Submitting a platform is encouraged but not required. If you cannot make the election meeting, you may send someone as proxy.
DormCon meets every other Thursday 7:30pm-9:00pm. We will have our next general body meeting in two weeks on Thursday (12/5) in Burton Conner at 7:30pm. Consider coming to check out all the improvements we're working on and hear about the current state of residential life. You can add yourself to dormcon-announce<https://groups.mit.edu/webmoira/list/dormcon-announce> to get future updates.
Descriptions of each position's duties are at the bottom of this email. All dormitory residents are eligible to run for all positions, with the exception of current officers of the UA, IFC, Panhel, and LGC. No prior experience is required. If you have any questions, please contact us at dormcon-execer at mit.edu!
Best,
Aiyedun Uzamere, DormCon President
Adriana Jacobsen, DormCon Vice President
Sarah Edwards, DormCon Secretary
Brief Descriptions of the Positions:
REX/CPW Chairs
The DormCon CPW/REX chairs oversee of all the dormitories' events during two of the best times of the year. They work closely with Admissions in creating the CPW booklet and communicate with dorm CPW chairs to ensure a great CPW. They are also responsible for coordinating REX (Residential Exploration) and publishing the REX booklet by coordinating with all of the dorms. This is a great opportunity to have a say in the way that MIT welcomes its freshmen and to help create the excitement that brought us all here!
We elect 1-2 each year. Term runs until end of next fall semester.

i3/RAC Chairs
The DormCon i3/RAC chair has two main jobs - in the spring, they are the student point person for making the i3 project happen and throughout the year they serve as the DormCon liaison to the dorm rooming assignment chairs! On the i3 side, the i3 (Interactive Introduction to the Institute) serves to introduce the incoming freshmen to the various wonderful dorms and dorm cultures at MIT. The i3/RAC Chair helps coordinate the process of creating and distributing the i3s by coordinating between administrators and the dorm i3 chairs. They also meet with dorm rooming assignment chairs and help to ensure good communication and knowledge sharing among the dorm RACs. Lots of exciting opportunities for change as MIT seeks to improve our housing policies and bolster student training!
We elect 1-2 each year. Term runs until end of next fall semester.

Dining Chair(s)
The DormCon Dining Chairs are DormCon’s main advocate on food and dining related issues. They are responsible for representing both dining- and cook-for-yourself dorms in discussions related to both house and retail dining. Recently, the dining chairs have worked to select a new dining vendor, develop new meal plans, and to help establish a low-cost grocery store on campus.
We're electing 1, preferably from a dining dorm. Term runs until end of spring semester.
