*tl;dr: Care about dorm life? Run for a position on DormCon! Election
meeting is 9/28.*

Hi everyone!

DormCon is the governing and advocacy body for all dormitory residents, and
if you hold an interest in dorm life or the relationship between dorms and
the MIT administration, this is the perfect way to get involved. You'll get
to meet with administrators, talk about ongoing problems and projects, and
contribute to the inner workings of MIT.

On *Thursday, Sept. 28th *we will be holding elections to fill two
vacancies in Dormitory Council (DormCon) officer positions. *We will be
electing one Housing Chair and one Risk Management Chair.* If you plan to
run and would like to submit a platform so that your candidacy will be
emailed out before the meeting, please email the DormCon secretary (
dormcon-execer at mit.edu) with your platform by *Tuesday, Sept. 26th at 6pm*.
Submitting a platform is encouraged but not required. If you cannot make
the election meeting, you may send someone as proxy.

DormCon meets every other Thursday 7:30pm-9:00pm. We will have our first
meeting *this Thursday (9/14) in New House at 6pm*.* Consider coming to
check out all the improvements we're working on and hear about the current
state of residential life. You can add yourself to dormcon-announce
<https://groups.mit.edu/webmoira/list/dormcon-announce> to get future
updates.

Descriptions of each position's duties are at the bottom of this email. All
dormitory residents are eligible to run for all positions, with the
exception of current officers of the UA, IFC, Panhel, and LGC. *No prior
experience is required.*

Dormtacularly yours,

Yuge Ji, DormCon President
Allie Stanton, DormCon Vice President

*Position descriptions:*

*Note:* all positions are normally held for a term of one year, but since
these are interim elections, you would take office immediately and remain
in office until June 1, 2018.

*Housing Chair:* The Dormcon Housing Chair position is responsible for all
things housing! In recent years, the chairs have been in charge of issues
such as dorm security, changes to facilities, and dorm storage. The
position offers great freedom to work on any housing issues the chairs care
about.

*Risk Management Chair:* The DormCon Risk Managers oversee all aspects of
safety in dorms and in dorm life, especially on matters of policy
surrounding alcohol, drugs, party-registration, party-safe training,
bystander intervention, and the institute's Good Samaritan policies. This
position allows you to influence the Institute's approach to risk
management, and to make it easier for students to do fun things, while also
being safe and responsible.
