If any of these things interest you:
- driving the Minimal Nutritional Fee down to $0
- being among the first to hear about upcoming changes to dining, housing,
and the like
- yelling at Housing because they haven't learned HTML
- deciding which dorms deserve tens of thousands of dollars for cool
events
- controlling the transfer of those thousands of dollars
- talking to more admins than you wanted to
- crafting agreements with the IFC, Panhel, and LGC about who can do what
when during REX
- making REX happen
- being part of a student government that meets just once every two weeks
for an hour and gets stuff done
- spamming all the dorm residents via a list they can't remove
themselves from :-)
- and standing up for Truth, Justice, and the Dormitory Way
you should join Dormcon.
MIT's Dormitory Council is the organ of student government that represents
the dormitories to the Institute. Our mandate includes anything that
affects dormitory residents, ranging from CPW and REX to kitchens and
House Dining to the Student Engagement Committee and JudComm. We also
control an impressive budget that comes from many sources, including $5 of
your house tax, and we fund events for the dormitory community.
Elections are this Monday at 5pm in W20-400 (UA Senate chambers, the room
in the middle of the fourth floor of the Student Center). All dorm
residents are invited to run for office, whether or not you've had
previous experience in student government. It's a great way to help make a
real difference at MIT.
If you're curious what positions are available and what they involve, see
http://web.mit.edu/dormcon/constitution/. We've already had elections for
REX and JudComm chairs, but we'll also be electing dining chairs in line
with our current offices (see the "officers" page).
See you there,
--
