Hello, all,

Here is a quick little blurb about registering parties and the
criteria. The link at the bottom goes to a page with more information and
the forms that you need to register the event if you want to print them
off. Please let me know if you have any questions. I would be more than
happy to answer them for you.

Ciao!
Dan

Registering Parties @ MIT

Parties are an integral part of balancing life anywhere you may land, much
less at a place with all the pulls and strains of MIT. However, before you
go throwing that blow-out bash to celebrate the two-month anniversary of
your roommate's girlfriend's brother's going steady with his girl, there
are a few things to remember. You MUST register a party at MIT if:
-Alcohol is being served (regardless of the number of people attending).
-Money will be collected at some point during the event (regardless of the
number of people attending).
-It is non-academic, non-educational, on-campus (but not in a residence
hall) where attendance will exceed 100 people.
-It is in a residence hall, is open to non-residents, and attendance will
exceed 100 people.
-It is in a residence hall, is closed to non-residents, and attendance will
exceed 250 people.
-It is required it be registered by an appropriate campus department or is
under special circumstances.

Now the question naturally arises, how do you register a party? The best
place to start is with your RLA. The RLA works with students and buildings
to help them plan and pull off successful events. They are fonts of
knowledge in their own right, even if that knowledge has nothing to do with
formulas, derivatives, or chemicals in solution. The best place to look
for the RLAs is in the Student Center, W20-549. If they're not there,
someone will be able to start the process for you and guide you through The
Seven Steps of Party Registration. While those are a lot of hoops to jump
through, it is actually best that you do so. That way, if things go wrong
at the party, you will have backing and assistance from MIT in any issues
that arise.

You can get forms and more information about whether you need to register
your event or not at the following link:
