I am the coordinator for the 2009 Awards Convocation. This is the
prestigious event ceremony that honors students, student
organizations, staff and faculty.  (http://web.mit.edu/awards)  I

CSSA.  The nomination deadline is three weeks away and I am sure that
members of CSSA could win one of many prestigious student awards that
are presented (Compton, Stewart, Wiesner, etc).

You still have a few weeks to nominate for the 2009 Awards
Convocation. March 13th may seem like a long time from now, but it's
never too early to get started on nominating a student, student
group, professor or staff member for the 2009 Awards Convocation! We
know you have lots to do between now and then, so we've made the
process nice and easy:

1. READ some of the award descriptions at http://web.mit.edu/awards/
2. WRITE a nomination letter
3. SEND to awards at mit.edu
4. ATTEND the Convocation in 10-250 on Tuesday, May 5th at 4 p.m.
(followed by a reception in the Lobby 10)

Here¡¯s a sampling of some of the awards that may interest you:

-William L. Stewart Awards, awarded to undergraduate students,
graduate students, student organizations who have made outstanding
contributions to extracurricular activities and events during the
preceding year.
- Karl Taylor Compton Prize awarded to an undergraduate and graduate
student in recognition of excellent achievements in citizenships and
devotion to the welfare of MIT.
- Gordon Y Billard Award, awarded a member of the faculty, non-
faculty employee or one not necessarily affiliated with the
Institute, for special service of outstanding merit performed for the
Institute.
- Laya Wiesner Community Award, presented to a member or friend of
the MIT community for conspicuously effective service that reflects
Mrs. Wiesner's concerns for enhancing life at the Institute.
- Numerous awards for faculty and staff.
