[MIT CSSA Outreach] Join CSSA and become a board member!

Dear friends:

There will be a Midway Session this afternoon 4-6pm in Johnson Athletics Center.
CSSA (Chinese Students and Scholars Association), together with all the student
groups on campus, will recruit new board members during that time. We are at
table 27.

As always, helping hands are in great need for an active group like CSSA. You
are welcome to join in us and work together with us as a board member! If you
can not attend the Midway session and are willing to be an organizer for the
great upcoming activities, please send an email to cssa-bd at mit.edu to introduce
yourself. We are looking forward to hearing from you~~

Besides organizing activities, being a board member of CSSA will give you the
best opportunity to get familiar with MIT campus life, to practice your
leadership skill and to know many new friends for teamwork! People here come
from different departments and have different backgrounds. But we have one
thing in common: we are very nice and hardworking, always ready to help others,
to enhance the life qualify of all the Chinese at MIT and greater Boston area.
We will be the best and most reliable friends you can find, and we will be your

Since this year?s executive board came into position in May, we have already
organized the following major activates:

2008-05-13 to 2008-07-23 On-Campus and On-line Donation Drive for the Sichuan
Earthquake
After the catastrophic earthquake hit Central China on May 12, we organized a
series of donation drive at the soonest time possible, raising $45,500.18 from
over 950 donors. All the money has been transferred back to the Red Cross in

2008-05-25 Earthquake Benefit Concert
We organized another Benefit concert in Kresge, inviting over 80 groups from
greater Boston Chinese community. Over $150,000 were collected during the

2008-06-08 Dragon Boat Festival
During the annual Hong Kong dragon boat festival in Charles River, among 32
racing teams from greater Boston, NY and as far as Canada, our CSSA dragon boat
team won a gold medal. See report in ?The Tech?:

2008-06-14 Chinese Tradition Music Concert
We presented a free Chinese traditional music concert to the whole MIT community
in Kresge. About 800 people attended to appreciate the Chinese culture.

2008-06-14 SAPA Conference
We organized a big conference in Wong Auditorium, attracted many working
professionals from pharmaceutical research and industry, and provided many job
and intern opportunists for our students.

2008-06-15 Culture Festival
We participated in the Cultural Festival in S&P and presented great Chinese
traditional dance, costume show and martial arts, as well as delicious Chinese
food.

2008-07-01 to 2008-07-30 Olympic T-shirt Design Contest
We organized an Olympic T-shirt design contest in the whole MIT community.
Amongst the many designs submitted by MIT students, the top voted design of
T-shirt was printed and over 200 T-shirts were distributed over the campus. The

second prize design was also highlighted on August 8 MIT homepage:

2008-07-12 Olympic Cup Table tennis Tournament
We organized a table tennis tournament on campus, and the selected 5 best
players were sent to New York City to participate in the Olympic Cup Table
tennis tournament, competing with other 37 universities from East Coast.

2008-07-24 Immigration Seminar
We invited an immigration lawyer to give a seminar about immigration procedure
and requirement, to instruct the application for EB1, EB2, etc.

2008-07-27 Beach Outing
We organized a beach outing to Newbury Port and Plum Island for all MIT students
to enjoy the historical sites and sunshine on the beach.

2008-07-31 Shakespeare Outing
We organized another outing to watch Shakespeare?s play in Boston Common, to
appreciate the English culture.

2008-08-01 Mid-autumn Banquet
We participated and presented 3 performances in Chinatown Mid-autumn Banquet,
with about 500 people audience from Greater Boston area. Our performance was

2008-08-02 Chinese Valentine's Day Party
We held a Chinese Valentine?s Day party in Ashdown to celebrate the
traditional festival, Qi Xi, presenting a variety of performances, a lot of
interesting games, prizes and food.

2008-08-03 S&P Brunch
We participated in S&P brunch and presented slides and poster introducing
Olympic history and Beijing Olympics. Slides are available at:

2008-08-08 Olympic Openning
We organized over 200 people to watch the Olympic opening ceremony in the

2008-08-08 Olympic Knowledge Contest
We organized an Olympic Knowledge Contest to the whole MIT community at the
Student Center and Stata Center. Questions and answers are available at:

2008-08-10 Olympic Week
We organized one week of various activities on campus to celebrate Olympics,
including Sailing, beanbag, rope jumping, frisbe, Taekwondo and Taichi, and
BBQ. Many people got these wonderful opportunities to enjoy interesting games,
great gifts, new friends and free food. It was also reported in ?World
Journal? and ?Sinovision? articles.

2008-08-26 T-party
We participated in SAO T-party in student center, presented Chinese food,
traditional music and decorations.

2008-08-01 to 08-08-28 New Student Pick-up
With the help of many of our volunteers, we organized volunteers to pickup for
all the new coming students who registered with us, provided dinner boxes for
late flights, and ordered lamps and phone cards for new students, followed by
several other events helping our new students.

We are going to organize more activities in September to welcome new students
and to celebrate the Mid-Autumn festival. A detailed orientation can be found

BTW, a ?student group? called ?Falun Dafa Club? will appear in today?s
Midway as well, table 163. Though they never organize any student activity
rather than broadcasting lies as a sole political propaganda tool, MIT is
tolerant enough to let them come and perform. Well, after registering yourself
at our table, you may wish to give them what they deserve?
