From aldavis at wi.mit.edu Wed Sep 15 11:07:36 2004 From: aldavis at wi.mit.edu (Al Davis) Date: Wed, 15 Sep 2004 11:07:36 -0400 Subject: [CSBi-HPC] IBM cluster reorganization Message-ID: <000101c49b35$bc4866d0$29289d12@bioimaging.wi.mit.edu> We've finally started the long awaited cluster reorganization intended to combine the two clusters into a single functional unit. Cluster programs - The first step that I've taken involves a reorganization of the programs directory where 3rd party apps such as matlab and the system startup files are stored. I've modified the standard system startup files to reflect the changes, but if you're using the old startup file, you'll see a warning message to start using the new one. If you have any problem, let me know and I'll help you get it resolved. Matlab - I've also upgraded Matlab to the latest version that is available for AIX (version 6.5.1 or release 13.1), which is the same 6.5 version that you've been using with their SP1 (service pack 1) added. This is mainly a minor update with bug fixes and enhancements to some of the functions. Full documentation on what it contains is available on the mathworks web site at: http://www.mathworks.com/access/helpdesk/help/techdoc/rn/rn.html then go to the 6.5.1 release notes page. Note: Matlab v7 (Release 14) is not available for AIX so this is the latest version we can install on the IBM cluster. **** If you're a Matlab user, please send me a list of all the toolboxes that you use, we need this info for future software licensing. **** The old programs directory is still available, so if you need to go back to the old version of matlab, let me know and I'll show you how to access it? The next reorganization task will be to move the home directories (both wi and ai) onto our new NetApp storage systems which has a little more space available. Then we'll be able to combine the two cluster halves into a single system with one login host and a single LoadLeveler set of queues. al -- Al Davis aldavis at mit.edu | aldavis at wi.mit.edu Systems Manager 617.324.0519 CSBi & WI/MIT BioImaging Center NE47-311 (500 Tech Sq) From jon at csail.mit.edu Tue Sep 21 10:30:30 2004 From: jon at csail.mit.edu (Jonathan D. Due to the machine room down time timmy remains off line, though I'll be able to debug tomorrow. -Jon
