Title: Online Parameter Estimation in Infinite Dimensional Dynamical Systems
Speaker: Philipp Kugler
Date/Time: June 14th at 10:30 AM
Location: 36-888
Host: James Lu (jameslu at mit.edu)
Abstract:
Online (or real time) parameter estimation finds practical applications
as an essential part of adaptive control algorithms. In the infinite
dimensional case, the literature discusses online algorithms for
parameter estimation in time-dependent partial differential equations
only under the restrictive assumption that spatially distributed data
including their spatial derivatives are available.
In this talk, we introduce an online parameter estimation algorithm
applicable to nonlinear PDEs as well as ODEs that also allows for
partial state observations and makes data differentiation unnecessary.
Numerical examples are presented.
About the speaker:
Dr. Kugler obtained his PhD in 2003 from Johannes Kepler University in
Linz, Austria. His mathematical background is functional analytical
treatment of nonlinear inverse problems. He is currently a university
assistant the Industrial Mathematics Institute in Linz.
