Jensen Charlotte Augusta Ayres Professor of Physics, Neuroscience, and Molecular Biology at Wesleyan University Visiting Professor of Neurology at the Brigham and Women's Hospital/Harvard Medical School Venue: Rm 68-180, 4 PM Abstract: Circulating blood cells provide a unique resource for disease diagnosis and prognosis using large-scale gene expression analysis. Since many disease-associated genes are ubiquitously expressed in many tissues, including the various nucleated cells in circulating blood, these easily accessible cells provide an opportunity to search for anomalous gene expression. In addition, these cells interact with all of the tissues in the body and may reflect gene expression changes characteristic of the diseased tissues. In both cases the new technologies for accurate measurement of large-scale gene expression may provide valuable genomic biomarkers for disease diagnosis, progression and response to treatment. P.S. Refreshments will be provided.
