HOUSE IN A BOX -- Luis Canizo, CRE '05, 50K Finalist
Built for $1,000 - $1,500, Semi-Permanent Dwellings Could Shelter Homeless
People Within Days of a Natural Disaster
All that Luis Canizo needs, metaphorically speaking, is a fulcrum. Canizo
doesn't propose to move the world. Still, his "lever" - a remarkable
invention he calls House in a Box (HAB) - offers a means to house some of
its most desperately poor citizens, people who have been displaced by
natural disasters. All he needs is a financial fulcrum. He already has the
one natural resource required for HAB. In fact, it's something all nations
have in abundance. (Read <http://web.mit.edu/cre/news/canizo.html> More)

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSE SURVEY
As an alumnus of the Center, we hope you will be willing to devote a few
minutes of thought to the Center's Professional Development Courses. CRE is
in the process of developing new classes to better serve the real estate
community, and as a valued member of that community, we would greatly
appreciate hearing from you. Your response is very important to us and any
comments will be held in confidence. Thanks in advance! (

CALLING ALL EUROPE-BASED ALUMS!
Do you work with or have an interest in European Real Estate? A network of
Europe-based alumni/ae has formed, and their goal is to cultivate, develop
and expand the real estate network. If you are interested in joining the
MIT/CRE European network, e-mail Nick Spencer(CRE '03) with your contact
details. Nick can be reached at nspencer at credogroup.com or 44 (0)
207-291-3716. For their first "meeting", the group will be rendezvousing
for cocktails on Tuesday 24th January, 2006 at Canary Wharf. For details,
contact Nick!
CALLING ALL SAN FRANCISCO-BASED ALUMS!
CRE alum Ted Horton ('87), is reaching out to San Francisco-based CRE grads.
If you would be interested in "getting together and kicking around deals and
ideas while asking questions and offering gratuitous opinions over a glass
of wine and some good Italian food" on a monthly or bi-monthly basis,
contact Ted at theodorehorton at gmail.com.
THE ALUMNI/AE <http://amps-tools.mit.edu/cre-alumniblog/> BLOG
http://amps-tools.mit.edu/cre-alumniblog/
CRE alums have expressed an interest in using technology to connect to one
another. Well, we are piloting a new Alumni/ae Blog. Take a look, send us
your comments, and post your news. This really represents an opportunity
for you to build your own virtual community. Take the ball and run with it
(or take the brick and build ;-). To post news to the Alumni/ae Blog,
contact Karen MacArthur at <mailto:macarthr at mit.edu> macarthr at mit.edu.
SAVE THE DATE! - Deadline for MSRED Applications 2/15/2006
Applications are due February 15, 2006. If you know someone who would be a
good candidate for the MSRED program, send him or her our way. We are more
than happy to answer questions and introduce prospective applicants to
students and other graduates.
