Greetings!

The new academic year has begun. The Class of 2006 arrived in late August
for two weeks of orientation and their arrival kicks into gear a number of
strategic changes at the Center. The Real Estate Development course is
being offered over two semesters. This change, the inclusion of
construction as an area of faculty expertise, and a re-commitment to the
physical asset, the real estate, has led to the creation of a curriculum
that is more exciting than ever. The new academic year also has the Center
poised to join forces with our industry, alumni/ae, and Institute partners.
To introduce them to Boston and to area alums, the Alumni/ae Association
organized an incredibly successful Scavenger Hunt  for the Class of 2006;
Kirstin Brown, CRE '98 of Spaulding & Slye Colliers, arranged an
introduction to the real estate industry that centered on the real estate
professionals involved in the development of NorthPoint, a 15-year project
on 45 acres of land in Cambridge, Somerville, and Boston; and MIT provided
support for the Summer Leadership Institute that looked at leadership across
industry sectors, an event put together by graduate students from the
Departments of Architecture and Planning and the Center for Real Estate.
All of this happened in the last week of August. Needless to say, the
semester has been launched with gusto!
