From marionoc at MIT.EDU Tue Jun 1 17:27:40 2004 From: marionoc at MIT.EDU (Marion Cunningham) Date: Tue, 1 Jun 2004 17:27:40 -0400 Subject: [Crealums] MIT/CRE NEWVISIONS Preliminary Results 6/1/2004 Message-ID: Dear Alumni/ae of the MIT Center for Real Estate, NewVisions Preliminary Tally $527,260 raised; 105.45% of Interim Goal Participation by All Classes and An Overall Participation Rate of 29% Keep your class on the map and make a gift now! http://web.mit.edu/giving/priorities/schools/architecture/cre.html We are going into Overtime and into Overdrive! Revised Campaign Deadline: Friday, July 2, 2004 Guess what? We raised over $500,000 in essentially 10 days. I believe we have a good shot at the remaining $400,000. To hit our goal of $900,000 will require that all of the classes hit their goals. To date, two of the 19 classes have not only hit, but exceeded, their goal and did it without the full participation of their classmates. We have matching gift challenges issued by the classes of 1986, 1989, and 2001. Meet the challenge of the gift! Our interim goal of $500,000 was exceeded and we need to do it one more time. We invite you to make our overtime goals: a.. All classes to hit their goals b.. Two-thirds or more class members to contribute. If the 15th Anniversary is any guide, we can do better. We can do more, and the funds are needed now more than ever before. In 1999 67% of the alumni participated in the fundraising effort and raised over $750,000. If we meet -- or exceed -- this performance, it will be another stunning achievement by the graduates of the MIT Center for Real Estate. I believe it can be done!!! I ask those who have already given to stretch a little further, encourage your fellow classmates to join the campaign, and let your team leader know who you are and who you are willing to call as we work to bring this campaign to a successful close on July 2nd. There is so much that is good that is happening at the Center and you, as our graduates and as the industry we serve, are at the heart of it. Go to our Home Page (web.mit.edu/cre) and sign on to the MIT Real Estate Exchange if you have not already done so; go to our Home Page (web.mit.edu/cre) and take a look at the Thesis Day Webcast; and go to our Home Page (web.mit.edu/cre) and sign up for one of our new Professional Development Courses -- Entrepreneurship, Affordable Housing, or Green Development. There is a tremendous amount going on. Be a part of it! Professional Development Courses g.. Reminders and Notices Greetings! In the last year, I have seen the Center grow and change in both big and small ways. In addition to our usual activities, we have accomplished the following: a.. Partnered with the Alumni Association of the CRE (AACRE) to hold regional events in Miami and New York City. b.. Organized a curriculum committee that has completed an in-depth review of the Center?s core courses and started to implement changes to ensure the core's continued relevance. c.. Negotiated an increase in MIT?s financial commitment to the CRE. d.. Organized and launched the NewVisions campaign. To date, we have raised almost $575,000! e.. Hired Assistant Professor Lynn Fisher . Prof. Fisher is currently teaching Real Estate Economics and Housing Markets. f.. Conducted a search for and hired Brian "Tony" Ciochetti as the Center? s new Thomas G. Eastman Chairman. g.. Started the process of restructuring industry membership focusing on a true value proposition. h.. Marketed and launched our 2004 summer Professional Development Courses, with new courses in entrepreneurship, affordable housing, and green development. We also launched a new on-line registration system for the PDC? s. i.. Surveyed the graduates of the Center for Real Estate to get their input into the Center?s strategic planning process. j.. Launched the MIT Real Estate Exchange (MITREX), an on-line data management tool that stores documents relevant to the real estate industry. k.. Conducted the Center?s first thesis webcast. The webcast highlighted a sample of the student theses and invited webcast viewers to provide input. l.. Supported and initiated significant new research projects -- New Century Cities, the Affordable Housing Initiative, and the Commercial Real Estate Data Laboratory. m.. Rescued the Construction Engineering and Management program and integrated key courses into the Center?s course offerings. These are just some of our achievements in the past year. Over the next year, we hope to achieve even more. We have an ambitious program for the alumni reunion weekend, a research workshop for IAP, and the Center?s 20th Anniversary conference ("Ground Zero -- MIT/CRE: At the Nexus of the Real Estate Industry") scheduled for March 2005. We are reaching out to the alums of the Center for Real Estate and asking you to help us to continue to grow, to help us in our efforts to be the foremost source of research and information about the real estate industry domestically and internationally. If you are a real estate professional, being able to access information, and people with information, is a competitive advantage. After all, "knowledge is power". To grow, the Center needs money and the involvement of our three key constituents -- graduates, industry, and MIT. Our fundraising goals for the alumni NewVisions campaign are three-fold: a.. To raise $500,000 by May 28, 2004. We achieved this goal and have raised $573,185 to date. b.. To raise $1.2 million in the overall campaign. We have raised almost 50% of the target amount. c.. To match or exceed the level of participation for the 15th anniversary. To date we have an overall participation rate of 44%; participation for the 15th anniversary was 66%. We are two thirds of the way there..... In many ways, our most important goal is our participation goal. We want everyone to make a gift at some level -- $5 for each of the Center?s 20 years or even better, $25 for each of the Center?s 20 years -- by June 30, 2004. The amount of your gift is important, but it is equally important for you to give. If each graduate who has not pledged committed to supporting the Center with a $100 or $500 gift each year for the next five years, the Center would raise $200,000 to $900,000. These dollars would be used to support the Center's work, work that is important to our graduates and to the real estate industry. Summarized below are the giving and participation levels of each class as of June 23, 2004: Class Cash Major Gifts Pledges Total Goal Gift % of Goal Achieved % Class Participation 1985 100,000 50,000 150,000 63,525 42% 43% 1986 100,000 50,000 150,000 34,975 23% 24% 1987 75,000 50,000 125,000 43,550 35% 42% 1988 75,000 25,000 100,000 30,750 31% 14% 1989 60,000 50,000 110,000 99,975 91% 57% 1990 50,000 50,000 15,585 31% 59% 1991 50,000 50,000 4,525 9% 16% 1992 50,000 50,000 100,000 84,110 84% 54% 1993 50,000 25,000 75,000 13,450 18% 10% 1994 50,000 25,000 75,000 51,800 69% 56% 1995 50,000 50,000 18,600 37% 44% 1996 50,000 50,000 2,225 4% 10% 1997 40,000 40,000 22,975 57% 67% 1998 40,000 40,000 17,850 45% 59% 1999 20,000 20,000 17,325 87% 53% 2000 15,000 15,000 15,950 106% 46% 2001 10,000 10,000 17,200 172% 48% 2002 8,000 8,000 13,390 167% 81% 2003 8,000 8,000 5,425 68% 70% Totals 906,000 325,000 1,231,000 573,185 47% 44% Some classes have had very little participation in the campaign, while others have had outstanding levels of involvement.
