One of the Center's most significant achievements over the last year has been the hiring of Dr. Brian (Tony) Ciochetti as the Thomas G. Eastman Chair of the Center for Real Estate. Ciochetti was founding director of the Center for Real Estate Development in the Keenan-Flagler School of Business at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. A highly-respected academic, he also brings extensive real estate industry experience in development and in commercial mortgage analysis, as well as considerable success as an institution builder at UNC. Tony will work closely with CRE Director David Geltner as a partner in the leadership of the MIT center, responsible in particular for the cultivation of industry-relevant research and membership programs, and for teaching topics in real estate finance and development. He will also continue to nurture and expand the ongoing operations of the Master of Science in Real Estate program, the nation's first one-year graduate program in real estate development. Since its inception in 1983, the master's program has served as a model for graduate programs at other universities both in the US and abroad. Ciochetti holds a BA in finance from the University of Oregon, and an MS and a PhD in real estate and urban land economics from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
