Greetings!

The Center for Real Estate has been the hub of an incredible amount of
activity. See for yourself:

NEW CHAIRPERSON SEARCH UNDERWAY

The MIT Center for Real Estate (CRE) is seeking to fill a full-time senior
position to serve as the Thomas G. Eastman Chair. This position has three
areas of responsibility: industry interface, education, and research. In
each area, the Chair holder must work closely and synergistically with CRE's
academic director to co-lead the Center, including helping to shape
strategic and tactical policy. The Chair will have primary responsibility
for the Center's relations with the real estate industry, including alumni
and member cultivation, with a priority responsibility for fundraising.
Applications should be sent to the Center for Real Estate.

CENTER RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

Reports on the wide array of academic investigations currently underway at
the Center will be forthcoming. Projects include work related to the office
design of the future, a housing affordability initiative, and the
development of a "Real Estate Investment Research Laboratory" . In
addition, we are considering developing a project with the Center for
Transportation and Logistics relating to logistics and industrial REITs.

CALL FOR THESIS TOPICS (http://web.mit.edu/cre/PDF/Memberthesisltr2003.pdf)

We are in the process of soliciting thesis ideas. If you have one, take a
look at the requirements outlined on the Center's web page
(http://web.mit.edu/cre/PDF/Memberthesisltr2003.pdf) and direct your
proposal to Maria Vieira.

ALUMNI/AE INITIATIVES

Alumni/ae Survey. On November 17, 2003, David Geltner sent all of the alums
a survey. Here is the link:

Please note, if you did not get this link, please contact Rosrin at
rosrin at mit.edu so that you can be added to the invitation list. You will
not be able to access or complete the survey if you are not on the list. We
need your responses by December 5th, so that we can use them in subsequent
phases of our planning process. Once compiled, we will share the results of
the survey with all alumni/ae.

Alumni/ae Forum. We are in the planning stages of a web-based, interactive
alumni/ae forum and want to hear from you. Please let us know what three
(3) topics you think would be crucial to the success of an alumni/ae forum.
Send your ideas to mit-cre at mit.edu.

Alumni/ae Calendar. AACRE events are going to be included on the Center's
calendar: (http://web.mit.edu/cre/events.html)

LEADERSHIP AND ACQUISITIONS

"Leadership" and "Acquisitions" are two of the topics addressed at the
Center for Real Estate over the last month. As a part of the Back-to-School
Day activities, Gloria Schuck outlined some of the new research on
leadership. To learn more about effective leadership, click on the
following link: http://web.mit.edu/cre/events.html

M. Wistar Wood and Kevin McCall offered two very different, yet highly
successful perspectives on acquisitions. Wistar is Vice President of
Acquisitions with Beacon Capital and Kevin is the President and CEO of
Paradigm Properties. On October 24th they spoke to the current class and
area real estate students about the acquisitions business. A summary of
their discussion is provided on the Center's web site:

MIT/CRE OPEN HOUSE (http://web.mit.edu/cre/events.html#openhouse)

On October 27, the Center for Real Estate held its annual Open House. The
event featured an alumni panel discussion, a presentation by David Geltner,
Director of the Center, and a vigorous question and answer period. Read
more about the Open House on the Center's web site:
