Laptop Tagging and Registration, offered by Information Systems & Technology (IS&T) in collaboration with MIT Police, is a FREE service. The former $10 cash fee is waived to encourage everyone to register their device.
The sessions are held on the first Wednesday of the month while classes are in session.
The next tagging and registration session will be held Wednesday May 4 -- from 10 am to 2 pm in the lobby of Building 10.
Bring your laptop or tablet and have a STOP Tag<https://www.stoptheft.com/stop-security-plate> permanently affixed to it. Just like you register a vehicle, the tag number is entered with the device’s details into a worldwide registration database and linked to your name and contact information. Should the laptop or tablet be found, the tag helps to return it to its rightful owner.
The tag also works as a visual deterrent for thieves who are looking to quickly resell the equipment. The tags are difficult to remove because of the use of super-glue, but if thieves are successful at removing it, a “tattoo” stating that it is stolen property is left behind.
Please see the Knowledge Base<http://kb.mit.edu/confluence/x/e4CSAw> for more information on laptop tagging and registration.
Sincerely,
Monique
