MIT Police - Informational Bulletin
Issued: April 15, 2010
The MIT Police would like to remind the community OF THE FOLLOWING REGULATIONS IN REGARD TO WHEELED PERSONAL TRANSPORTATION.
MIT Police have received several complaints of "near misses" as they were exiting their lab with equipment or experiments. Last year a female was struck and knocked to the ground by bicyclist in a hallway.
RIDING INSIDE: $25 FINE
The operation of bicycles, in-line skates, skateboards, or any other form of wheeled personal transportation, except medical devices, such as: wheelchairs and scooters, in Institute buildings, or parking structures, is prohibited. A fine of $25.00 will be imposed.
ILLEGAL PARKING: $50 FINE
Bicycles must be parked only at bike racks. Bicycles found illegally parked or attached to stairways, handrails, light posts, or fire chains will be removed and a fine of $50.00 will be imposed. MIT is not responsible for damage to the lock or bicycle upon removal. Enforcement by the MIT Department of Transportation.
KNOW THE RULES
It is the responsibility of all individuals operating bicycles and non-pedestrian devices on campus to make themselves familiar with MIT regulations. A lack of knowledge will not be accepted as grounds for dismissal of citations or enforcement actions.
REGISTER YOUR BIKE
Protect your investment by registering your bike. MIT recommends that all bikes be registered.
