Crime Alert to MIT Community
Issued: October 2, 2006
MIT Police received a report of a robbery which occurred on the Harvard
Bridge in the area of the 220 'smoot' mark, on Saturday, September 30,
2006 at approximately 3:12 a.m.
SUSPECT:
The suspect is described by the victim as follows: male, black, with no
further description.
REPORTED INCIDENT:
The victim was walking across the Harvard (Mass. Ave.) Bridge when she
was approached from behind. The suspect ripped her purse from her
shoulder. The suspect fled on foot towards Boston and may have gotten
into a small dark colored vehicle. State Police are investigating this
incident.
SUGGESTIONS:
All members of the MIT community are asked to be alert and take
precautions.
To minimize the opportunity for such attacks, the MIT Police Department
reminds community members to be vigilant while walking throughout campus
and surrounding areas both during the day and at night and to take the
appropriate precautions, such as walking with others and utilizing the
Safe Ride whenever possible.
Remain alert to your immediate surroundings while talking on a cell
phone or listening to music.
Anyone on campus should call the MIT Police Department at 617-253-1212,
utilize a blue light emergency telephone, or dial 100 from an Institute
telephone if they feel they are in danger at any time.

bulletin boards in your area. If you have any information that might be
