Below is a reminder of the application process and deadlines for funding activities that foster community within Biology. The guidelines cover departmental funding and provide information about the School of Science Quality of Life Fund.

The Biology Department continues to offer financial support for events/programs that foster community within the department, promote welcoming for students, postdocs, administrative and research staff, and faculty, and support the well-being of our members.

The goal is to fund established community groups or those that have outgrown the SoS Dean’s Quality of Life Grants, as well as relatively inexpensive one-time events. Activities should be targeted to the Biology Department community and aligned with our mission to advance biology-related research, education, and service.

Proposals of up to $3,000/year will be considered for Biology community organizations, and up to $500 each for one-time events.

Funding cannot cover equipment (cameras, computers, furniture, etc.), house parties, research, or be used to support charities.

Note that the Fall 2026 application includes a very brief summary of Spring activities, if applicable.  and should include description of events, community participation, and impact.

If you are an existing group or organization within Biology with a track record of participation and success and have received Quality of Life grants before, please apply for a Biology Community Organization Gran<https://forms.gle/mqWgpLH1fNN5STyk9>t (Application deadline: September 30, 2026).

If you would like to propose a one-time program/event within Biology that will cost $500 or less, please apply for a Biology One-Time Program/Event Grant.<https://forms.gle/WLeNcJFfsFm3tHD96> <https://forms.gle/WLeNcJFfsFm3tHD96>  (Applications accepted on a rolling basis up to December 1).
