[bioundgrd] The most important survey

Dear biology community,

I’m writing with a personal appeal to each of you:
Please make time to fill out the MIT Quality of Life survey today or tomorrow.
Responses are low compared to 2024, and we are behind peer departments like Brain and Cognitive Sciences in terms of participation. Student responses are particularly low, across the institute.

The survey covers important issues such as workload, stress, wellness, and departmental climate. The survey is voluntary and confidential. Our department will not have access to individual responses. The results will be presented in aggregate in a way that protects the privacy of respondents.

The survey is run across all of MIT, every two years, and we lean on it heavily to understand people’s experiences and how things are going. We study the data closely and use it to shape department priorities, inform policy decisions, and allocate resources. We want to do that with confidence that the survey includes your views.

You can learn more about the survey and access your link by visiting qol.mit.edu. If you have any issues, you can reach the survey team at mit-qol at mit.edu.

I (sheepishly) admit that I have been too busy to fill this out myself, so far, but I am going to do it tonight. Please join me. I hope the next update that I receive from Institutional Research will reflect a surge of Biology Department participation across the board.

We need to hear from you to make MIT a better place. Thank you for your attention and for a bit of your valuable time.

Best regards,
Amy
