[bioundgrd] Research Image Request - Holiday Card

Hi,
My name is Lillian Eden, I'm the communications specialist for MIT Biology. I'm reaching out because it's never too soon to start thinking about the holidays!
Every year, the MIT Biology department solicits colorful research images to feature on a card that is sent out to alumni and friends of the department. This card is a critical component of staying connected to the MIT Bio community worldwide!
Submissions will be considered on a rolling basis until Friday, Oct. 31. Anyone in the MIT Bio community is eligible to participate!

Last year's selection (below) was from Hariharan Jayaraaman, a graduate student in the Weissbourd Lab. This image shows genetic labeling of the nervous system of a jellyfish larva, about 290µm across and magnified 450x, which swims around searching for an optimal place to attach and metamorphose into a stationary adult polyp. Investigating this process provides insights into the structure and function of early nervous systems and a critical decision point that is particularly vulnerable to climate change (we'll work together to draft a description like this to include in the card).
