Dear Biology Students and Postdocs,

Please see below an invitation to the Machine Learning in Biology Working Group retreat.

Best,

Hi!

Last Spring, we started the Machine Learning in Biology Working Group (MLBWG) to foster inter-departmental connections among Ph.D. students and post-docs applying machine learning to biological problems. Many such researchers often work in labs that focus on computer science or biology – not both. Accordingly, we designed the MLBWG as a close-knit space for students and post-docs to meet other interdisciplinary researchers and receive detailed feedback on their work.

We are hosting a small one-day retreat this summer for the MIT community on Wednesday, August 28th in Building 76 (Luria Auditorium, KI). This will be an opportunity for faculty-student interactions, further promoting interdepartmental collaborations, and it will include a keynote talk by Prof. Debbie Marks (HMS), two graduate student speakers (Peter DeWeirdt, Michael Laub's lab) and Xinyi Zhang (Caroline Uhler's lab), a panel focused on the future of the interface of machine learning and biology with Dr. Kevin Yang (Microsoft Research New England), Prof. Sergey Ovchinnikov (MIT), and Dr. Pat Walters (Relay Therapeutics). It will also include poster sessions.

We would love to see you there - here<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdSQgpcGdLcppFJCQu-4HGc83G6Veaq34384za3PxGwWtVrrw/viewform> is the registration form, including a detailed schedule. We will cap the number of attendees at ~30 and the number of poster presenters at ~15 so make sure to sign up! Registration will close on August 5th. This will be a great chance to present a poster and network with fellow trainees, faculty, and other professionals.

Feel free to reach out with any questions.

All the best,

Maria Carreira (Joey Davis's lab) & Foster Birnbaum (Amy Keating's lab)
