Hi Biology undergrads and grad students,

We are looking to hire a programming tutor for 7.571 Quantitative Biology for Graduate Students to spend a few hours a week helping support students who are struggling with coding skills. We’d need the tutor to either have taken 7.57 or equivalent or be comfortable with teaching programming basics in Python with numpy/pandas. Full job descriptions attached below.

If you are interested or would like more information, please just shoot us an email (kjulia at mit.edu and julianst at mit.edu).

Position 1: 7.57.1 Programming Debugger
Dates: First half of Spring 2024
Hours/Week: 5
Level: Undergraduate or Graduate
Prior Experience: Working knowledge of Python, NumPy, SciPy, and Pandas

Need:
Prior 7.57.1 TAs have noted that a subset of students (~10/semester) ask for individual help debugging code (although these individuals often have overlap in their problems). For this position, we are looking for someone with experience coding and debugging in Python to help new programmers work through common problems.

Description:

The Programming Debugger for 7.57.1 will attend weekly problem-solving recitations (2 hours/week), hold one office hour specifically dedicated to programming help (1 hour/week), and be available to answer student questions via email or Piazza (2 hours/week).
