Dear Course 7 majors,

We believe that the ethical considerations discussed in "Ethics for Engineers" will provide you with valuable insights and perspectives that will enhance your understanding of the ethical dimensions of biological research and its applications.

The department is working on getting a 7.xyz<http://7.xyz/> number for the subject. In the meantime, feel free to enroll in it this Fall under any of the existing course numbers. All the subject numbers are 6 units except for 20.005, which is 9 units and includes an independent project related to biology / biotechnology / bioengineering

1.082, 2.900, 6.9320, 10.01, 16.676, 20.005, 22.014: Ethics for Engineers

Rating: 6.4/7.0

Explores how to be an ethical engineer. Students examine engineering case studies along with foundational ethical readings, and discuss which ethical approaches are best and how to apply them as engineers. Topics include justice, rights, autonomy, cost-benefit analysis, bias, climate change, human flourishing, and the promise and peril of genetic engineering. Discussion-based. One section focuses on Bioengineering case studies, one section on Computer Science, and other sections cover engineering topics more broadly. For 20.005, students undertake an ethical-technical analysis of a BE-related topic of their choosing.
