21H.283, The Indigenous History of MIT will be offered this fall and is co-led by Dr. Craig Wilder and Alvin Harvey, a PhD candidate in the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics and President of the MIT Native American Student Association (NASA).
The Indigenous History of MIT
21H.283
Lecture: M 12-2, 14N-112
Recitation: W 12-1, 14N-112
Students work with MIT faculty, staff, and alumni, as well as faculty and researchers at other universities and centers, to focus on how Indigenous people and communities have influenced the rise and development of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Students will also focus on understanding the web of relationships that connect MIT and higher education to Indigenous knowledge paradigms, experiences, and efforts to decolonize and Indigenize MIT. Students will develop critical skills in researching and co-creating with Indigenous people, communities, and nations through decolonized methodologies. Guest speakers will explore Indigenous Research Methodologies and Methods. Each student will build a research portfolio that will include an original research essay, archival, and bibliographic records, maps and images, and other relevant documentary and supporting multimedia materials.
If you have any questions, please email Alvin Harvey at adharvey at mit.edu<mailto:adharvey at mit.edu>.
