Hi there!
My name is Summer Morrill and I am the Instructor of TA training in the Department of Biology. A former 7.01 undergraduate TA, Balyn Brotheridge, is working together with my office and the 7.01 Instructor Moni Avello to help rethink the format of our 7.01 handouts, starting with 7.016. In short, we are trying to create better alignment between the 7.01 recitation handouts and TA best teaching practices. We want to consider how to better incorporate inclusive practices into the handouts, including ideas for making recitation more engaging and tips for facilitating participation.
We would like to get input from former 7.01 students on what they like and dislike about the 7.01 recitation materials, so that any changes we make reflect not only what is best for the TAs but also what is best for the students. If you are interested in participating in a focus group (snacks provided!) aimed at sharing your experiences and opinions on the 7.01 handouts, please reach out to me (smorrill at mit.edu<mailto:smorrill at mit.edu>) by Tuesday March 15th. We are looking for a group of 4-8 students. By sharing your perspective, you can help shape the experiences of many future 7.01 students!
Please let me know if you have any questions. Looking forward to hearing from you!
Best,
Summer and Balyn
