tl;dr: Teach anything to middle schoolers on March 12-13! Free food, supplies, and swag! Register now!<https://esp.mit.edu/teach/Spark/index.html?src=spark_2022-department_spam-Biology>
Do you want to share an interesting idea, some awesome facts, or your favorite hobby with curious and enthusiastic students? Interested in teaching classes like Bird Basics, Explore Solar Energy, Cryptography, Breakdancing, or What’s a Genome? At Spark<https://esp.mit.edu/teach/Spark/index.html?src=spark_2022-department_spam-Biology>, you can teach about any topic you would like, and there will be hundreds of 7th and 8th graders eager to take your classes!
Dates, Times, and Details
Spark will take place all day on Saturday and Sunday, March 12-13, and you can teach 1- to 3-hour classes for as much or as little of that time as you would like. Your class can be any format, from a large lecture-style setup to a smaller workshop or even a walk-in class<https://esp.mit.edu/teach/Spark/walkinactivities.html> that students can join as they like. We especially encourage having co-teachers, so grab a friend.
Incentives for Teaching
As always, we can help provide class supplies for you and your students. On the day of the program, you’ll also be able to gather with other teachers, eat free food (pending MIT COVID policies), and pick up a free t-shirt and other swag!
In addition to these incentives, Spark can help you become a better teacher! We offer teacher orientations that cover teaching strategies, and we’re happy to discuss class topics and address any questions you might have. Nine out of ten teachers who taught at past ESP programs say the experience improved their teaching skills!
But what would I teach?
You can teach anything you want. Really, anything! Classes can range from Biology-related subjects like “Bird Basics” and “What’s a Genome” to other subjects like “Calligraphy for Beginners” or even “Beyblade Physics”!
Still brainstorming what to teach? Get inspired by more example ideas<https://esp.mit.edu/teach/logistics/whattoteach.html> or look at last year’s course catalog<https://esp.mit.edu/learn/Spark/2021/catalog/>. You can also look at ESP’s Class in a Box<http://esp.mit.edu/classinabox_spreadsheet>, which has resources from some past classes!
Ok, I want to teach! What now?
Sign up to teach<https://esp.mit.edu/teach/Spark/index.html?src=spark_2022-department_spam-Biology> by this Thursday, February 3rd!
You can find more information on our website, and you can email us at spark at mit.edu<mailto:spark at mit.edu> with any questions.
