Subject: Fall 2021 Paid Mentoring Opportunity with MIT Full STEAM Ahead

We have an opportunity through MIT Full STEAM Ahead<https://fullsteam.mit.edu/> for college and university students to participate as paid mentors in a MIT fall program for high school students this semester from this September through early December. Could you please share this message below with your department's undergraduate and/or grad students and any other students you feel might be interested? We would really appreciate it! Thank you again for your help, and good luck with the start of the semester!

Full STEAM Ahead Fall 2021 Program

Full STEAM Ahead (FSA)<https://fullsteam.mit.edu/> is a community outreach initiative to provide research-based hands-on learning opportunities for K-12 students. The initiative was launched in 2020 to support parents, teachers and students during the early days of COVID-19 by providing access to high-quality educational materials. Our vision is to create a global community of learners (children, teachers, and parents) who can share ideas, ask and answer questions, and engage in STEAM in meaningful ways even if they are online.

This September 2021, our new program, the Full STEAM Ahead Immersion Program (FSA-ASM) will offer 8 weeks of online project based learning activities for a cohort of 100 Moroccan high school students, with the goal of providing rich STEAM experiences. At the beginning of each week, a new set of learning activities will be released to students, with self-guided materials and small group mentor check-ins throughout the week. As our past FSA programs have demonstrated, MIT students are amazing mentors. As a mentor, MIT students will work with smaller groups of up to 15 students and will provide weekly mentorship and project support around the weekly activities.

This program will be conducted in English and will work remotely over Zoom. The position will take place from mid-September through early December and pays $17/hour and is open to undergraduate and graduate students at MIT along with those from other universities and colleges.

Pre-requisites:
· Passion for K-12 education and mentoring high school students.
· An interest in working with different MIT groups across disciplines.
· Have around 10 hours a week to commit to this project.
· Be available for initial training in September and weekly training on upcoming activities. Several training session times will be offered to accommodate schedules.
· Be available during weekdays for working with students and educators. Times to be determined based on hiring, but these will likely range between morning to mid-afternoon Eastern Time.
· Attend the weekly mentor meeting - time to be determined based on mentor’s schedules.
· Be willing to manage weekly projects and mentor meetings with small groups of high school students.
· Keep a reflection journal each week with your thoughts and reflections about what is working and what is not, and how we might improve the program.
