ANNOUNCING THE SUMMER 2021 EXPERIENTIAL ETHICS COURSE: DEADLINE TO APPLY IS March 31, 2021
Explore the fast-changing, real-time ethical landscape of industry, science, and technology and develop important interpersonal, professional, and leadership competencies along the way. Experiential Ethics<http://experientialethics.mit.edu/class> is a 3-unit class that can be taken by itself or alongside popular experiential learning programs and internships, such as UROP, MISTI, or PKG programs. In the course, students engage in small-group discussions (via Zoom) about their own values and the ethical and social dimensions of their summer experiences.
Experiential Ethics students who took the course in the summer of 2020 reported high satisfaction with the course, increased knowledge and ability to engage with ethics, and increased interest in ethics. Testimonials include:
• “I enjoyed listening to different perspectives on ethical topics and truly just talking about ethical issues because I had never really given much thought to them before.”
• “The class expanded my definition of ethics to not just include personal definitions of right/wrong, but to also include broader ideas of institutional/systemic ethics. It made me more aware of the articles and books and social issues that usually fly under my radar.”
• “Please offer this class every summer, if not during IAP or the semesters, too! It’s a great way to reflect on our internships and stay in touch with the MIT community during breaks.”
All continuing MIT undergrads are welcome and encouraged to apply, regardless of year, major, prior ethics experience, or summer plans.
