The Society of Underrepresented Biologists and Biological Engineers (SUBE<https://sube.mit.edu/>) is hosting a career panel on Monday, April 12 at 6pm with representatives from Zymergen<http://zymergen.com/>, a company that uses biology to create sustainable materials. We will offer $15 meal reimbursements to 20 people who RSVP and attend (RSVP here<http://lu.ma/SUBExZymergen>). Come to learn more about working in biotech, especially as an underrepresented minority.
Our panelists are:
Alex Rosay - Senior Product Manager at Zymergen
“My name is Alex Rosay and I am a Product Manager at Zymergen. As a PM, I work collaboratively with our software engineers and data scientists to develop tools that'll help us predict what molecules we think we can make sustainably through biology. In my role, I envision the long term roadmap, help drive execution on short term priorities, and roll-out new releases to our biologists and chemists. I like this role because it balances the technical knowledge I developed as a chemical engineer at Stanford and the high level business strategy skills I developed as a management consultant at Bain. I am originally from Los Angeles and the son of a Mexican immigrant, so the mission of SUBE really resonates with me.”
Raissa Estrela Curado - Senior Scientist at Zymergen
“I'm Raissa Estrela Curado and I am a Scientist II at Zymergen. My daily activities include planning and executing experiments in the laboratory as well as mentoring junior researchers and helping them broaden their technical skillset. Alongside biology experiments which will ultimately result in the microorganisms that produce our innovative materials, I work heavily with automation in the laboratory. I often help coordinate our needs with colleagues from other departments, working closely with colleagues from software and data science. Before Zymergen, I did a PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology at UC Berkeley and before that I did an internship in Synthetic Biology in France and completed a master's degree in Genetics in Brazil, my home country.”
Please join us at 6 pm on Monday to connect with our panelists and learn more about Zymergen! RSVP for the zoom link and food here<http://lu.ma/SUBExZymergen>.
If you have any questions, please contact us at sube_exec at mit.edu.
Best,
