Subject: Cell Ag @ MIT Speaker Series and Club Launch
I represent a new student group called Cell Ag @ MIT, and we are hosting events that students and faculty in the Biology Department may find interest in. Could you please forward this invitation to anyone you think might be interested in joining? All are welcome.
“For Fun and Non-Profit,” 11am EDT 10/9/2020
Cell Ag @ MIT invites you to a talk by Jeremiah Johnston, New Harvest Research Program Director.
How do you make a lab-grown burger a reality? You have to support its development, of course, and that’s one way the non-profit New Harvest (founded by Media Lab Director’s Fellow Isha Datar) is helping make this happen.
New Harvest Research Program Director, Jeremiah Johnston, will be speaking on the latest research granting opportunities and their deadlines. He will be discussing New Harvest Fellowship Awards, Seed Grants and Dissertation Awards. Jeremiah will also review the activities and expectations of the grant recipients. This will be a great opportunity to learn about the funding priorities and identified research needs by the New Harvest. Join in to learn more about grant and fellowship opportunities ranging from $5,000 - $120,000.

Intro to Cell Ag @ MIT + Sci Talk with Dr. David Kaplan (CLUB OFFICIAL LAUNCH!)
2:30 pm EDT 10/16/2020
What is Cell Ag @ MITt? We’ll give a short presentation on what the field of cellular agriculture is and what our group is doing to bring it to MIT. Following a talk by one of the field’s leading experts, Dr. David Kaplan, we’ll hang out in Gathertown to chat with anyone interested.
The Kaplan Lab of Tufts University is home to a range of cellular agriculture projects, from cultivated meat with enhanced nutrition profiles (beta-carotene bacon, anyone?), to managing the behavior of cultivated cells for large scale production (without genetic engineering), to cultivated insect meat (it’s less picky to grow than mammalian cultures). In addition, Dr. Kaplan is chair of the NIH’s Biomaterials and Biointerfaces Study Section, and his group has produced the first course on cellular agriculture at Tufts.
