Dear staff, students, postdocs,
Thanks to those who attended the meeting on Friday to hear about the nascent Biology DEI Council. ( I’m sorry I was not able to attend.). I’m excited about the impact this council could have on the culture of our department and helping to create a stronger sense of community and belonging for all.
As articulated in this week's BioMatters Newsletter, we are seeking members for our Biology DEI Council. The council will be comprised of staff, students, postdocs, and faculty representatives, likely Yukiko Yamashita and Mike Laub. Council members will seek input from across the department and identify priorities and actions that will make the department culture more inclusive, equitable, and diverse. If you are interested in serving on this council, please submit a statement of interest<https://mit.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=7454ce474d7e7a07655749657&id=e5fac4b1c7&e=cbcabafa91>, including your current position, what group you’re in, how long you’ve been in the department, a brief statement about why you want to join the DEI Council, and a summary of how you envision broadly representing your peers (for example, how you might gather input from them so that you can represent them on the Council).
Please note: the deadline for expressing interest is now Friday December 4 (changed from November 30).
If you are interested in helping to improve our community by contributing to a more inclusive, equitable, and diverse department, please express that interest<https://mit.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=7454ce474d7e7a07655749657&id=e5fac4b1c7&e=cbcabafa91> and consider serving on the nascent council.
Best wishes to everyone for a good, safe, and relaxing Thanksgiving.
Alan
