Abstract: DeepBiome Therapeutics is a seed-stage startup developing a drug discovery platform for mining small molecule therapeutics from the human microbiome. We aim to make drug discovery more predictable, easier, and efficient by analyzing metagenomic data to generate hypotheses about small molecule-to-target interactions in human diseases. In this talk, I will discuss my research experience preceding my scientist position and the current efforts I am leading at DeepBiome Therapeutics.
Bio: Mao Taketani is currently a Senior Scientist at DeepBiome Therapeutics, where she leads the synthetic biology efforts in discovering small molecule therapeutics from the human microbiome. Previously she was a postdoctoral researcher in Chris Voigt's lab at MIT, where she engineered small molecule transcriptional sensors and genetic circuits in Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron, an abundant human microbiome member. She received her Ph.D. from UC Berkeley in Infectious Diseases and Immunity, studying under Michael Fischbach (Stanford).
