Opportunity for undergraduates

Apply for join:
Undergraduate Dean’s Action Group, Social and Ethical Responsibilities of Computing (SERC)
Stipend: $1400

Application Deadline: Sept 1st, 2020

We are launching two undergraduate Dean’s SERC Action Groups. One group will be composed of a first-year cohort with interest in computing, and a second group will be composed of sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

The aim is to weave SERC multi-disciplinary curricula into traditional computing and AI courses, as well as to facilitate critical thinking about computing and society in classes across the humanities, arts, and social sciences. The efforts aim to create original pedagogical materials for use across all levels of instruction, in order to facilitate the development of responsible “habits of mind and action” for those who create and deploy computing technologies, and the creation of technologies in the public interest.

The first-year cohort will bring a fresh perspective on the best ways to weave SERC material into the common first-term pathways. The upper-class cohort will be able to reflect on prior courses they have taken, and how the course material may be best enhanced with SERC content.
