My name is Lakshmi and I am a MIT '16 alum currently at UCSF for medical school. The research lab I am working in at UCSF is currently looking to hire a new research technician and my PI (Aaron Tward), who previously worked at the Broad, was hoping to advertise to undergraduates at MIT. If the below ad could be distributed to the current biology undergrads through the email list, that would be much appreciated!

See ad below -

The Tward lab in the Department of Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery is looking for people interested in a Specialist position (Junior, Assistant, or Associate rank) at UCSF. We are an interdisciplinary lab. Appointees at the junior rank will be required to have a bachelor's degree in biology, bioengineering, biochemistry, computer science or related disciplines at the time of commencing work. Appointees at the assistant/associate level must have a master's degree in in biology, bioengineering, biochemistry, computer science or related disciplines at the time of commencing work.
The ideal candidate will have familiarity with one or more of the following: microscopy, molecular biology, mammalian cell culture, instrumentation, genome editing/CRISPR technology, and quantitative and computational analysis. We prefer candidates with a strong background in bioinformatics/computational biology who have the ability to perform independent research in addition to supporting the lab. Candidates interested in working in the lab for at least two years are preferred.
Our lab is interested in the identity and function of the molecular events that reprogram a normal cell into a pre-cancerous cell and ultimately to a cancer cell. We hope to harness that knowledge to generate novel therapies. We use a variety of techniques to address these questions such as high throughput sequencing of clinical samples, cell culture and in vivo modeling, and computational analysis of large, multidimensional data sets. For example, we have identified a set of mutations in head and neck squamous cell cancer that we are highly confident contribute to the initiation and progression of the disease, however how these mutations interact and how they reprogram cells is largely unknown. We have generated models of these diseases using CRISPR-Cas9 technology in primary human tissue to create “designer” tumors that recapitulate the diversity of human squamous cell cancers.
We additionally have a strong interest in the organs of hearing. We have used single cell RNA-seq technology and genetically modified animals to develop a cellular map of these organs and understand how the cells of these organs develop and are CV must contain previous research experience, GPA, a list of prior coursework, and list three references.
