I am reaching out to you on behalf of MIT Policy Hackathon team<https://www.mitpolicyhackathon.org/>. We are a group of students from MIT Institute for Data, Systems and Society<https://idss.mit.edu/> (IDSS) and Technology & Policy Program<http://tpp.mit.edu/> (TPP) organizing the second edition of the event. The Hackathon is one of our flagship events, which matches students interested in data science and policy to a selection of real-world challenges. We hope to use this event to build bridges with those in policy making roles who do not have the resources necessary to leverage their data. Last Spring, the inaugural Policy Hackathon was a great success<http://news.mit.edu/2018/using-data-science-improve-public-policy-hackathon-0423> with over 100 participants working on five challenges ranging from energy policy in the City of Boston to social safety nets and the future of work.
We hope continue building bridges with those in policy making roles who do not have the resources necessary to leverage their data. This year, we are looking for 150 participants and will provide food, working spaces, and policy and data experts on hand during the weekend. I am sure there is a lot of aspiring (or current) policy makers, data scientists and/or engineers in the Biology Department. We would be really grateful if you could share about the event with them! They can register here<https://www.mitpolicyhackathon.org/> by March 15.
Do not hesitate to reach out to us at policyhackathon at mit.edu<mailto:policyhackathon at mit.edu> if you have any questions.
Thank you and looking forward to seeing a lot of enthusiasm from our Biology friends!
Marie Charpignon, on behalf of the 2019 MIT Policy Hackathon team.
