My name is Jenna Himawan, and I’m a co-director for Spark 2019. Spark is a program in which middle schoolers come to MIT for a weekend to take fun classes. I sent you an email similar to this one a while ago, and I would greatly appreciate it if you could forward along the email below, in order to remind the students in your departments who might be interested in this very fun teaching opportunity!

Subject: Be a Teacher for Spark!
tl;dr: Spark 2019 teacher registration is open<http://esp.mit.edu/19spark>! Share any of your interests or hobbies with middle school students! Deadline: Tuesday, February 5th, 2019

Do you have a passion or skill that you’d like to share? Do you know a lot about an interesting topic like numerology, evolutionary computation, calculus, or video games and want to spread the knowledge? Maybe you’d like to lead a group discussion on an Old English text, host a friendly class competition about the periodic table, or inform people what “reverse-osmosis” water really is!
Never taught anything before? Spark is great for first-time teachers! We provide teacher orientations and fund class supplies, giving you a great opportunity to practice teaching and a fun chance to share your interests.
If any of the above apply (or even if they don’t), sign up<http://esp.mit.edu/19spark> to teach for Spark! On the weekend of March 16th-17th, 1,000 middle-school students are coming on campus to take classes taught by MIT students like YOU! Sign up to teach anything and everything, from Magic Systems in Fantasy Stories to Probability Paradoxes, Puzzles and Games to How to do adult-related money things to How to Become President. Free food and t-shirts will be provided to all teachers!
Don’t know what you want to teach? You can see our very abridged list of what you can teach<https://esp.mit.edu/teach/logistics/whattoteach.html> or try out our random class generator<http://esp.mit.edu/random> based off previous classes taught at ESP programs. If you have any questions, email us at spark at mit.edu.
Thanks!
