-----------------------------

Part-time position available: Medical Image Annotator

Project Description:
We are developing machine learning algorithms to create 3D-printed heart models, to help doctors plan surgery for children with severe congenital heart defects. This work is being done in the Medical Vision Group lead by Dr. Polina Golland<https://people.csail.mit.edu/polina/> at MIT. For example, see this MIT news article<http://news.mit.edu/2015/3-d-printed-heart-models-surgery-0917>. Each patient has a 3D magnetic resonance (MR) image taken before surgery. Our goal is to automatically "segment" the heart, i.e., outline the four cardiac chambers and the great vessels in each 3D image.

Job Description:
We are looking for someone to help us expand our training dataset from 20 subjects to 50-100 by manually labeling 3D MR images. Each 3D image can be thought of as a stack of 100-150 photos, and your job will be to perform detailed drawings on each photo to annotate where the cardiac structures are.

This is a great opportunity to earn some extra money while advancing science and learning about the practical aspects of medical imaging. Particularly interesting for premeds!

Tasks:
- Use existing software to manually mark-up 3D MR images of the heart.
- Learn about heart anatomy and congenital heart disease as needed.
- Help us refine our manual segmentation procedures to make it more efficient.
- Meet weekly with researchers at MIT and/or Boston Children's Hospital for training, to review progress, and to ensure that annotations meet project requirements with high quality.
- Must be patient, detail-oriented and able to work on repetitive tasks efficiently.

Pay:
$20 per hour.

Please include a description of why you are interested in the position and how many hours per week you want to dedicate during this semester. International students should check with the International Student Office (ISO) regarding employment eligibility.
